According to FIDE regulations, when players have equal Elo ratings on the world top players rating list, the tiebreaking methodology is as follows:
- Number of rated games played - The player who has played more rated games in the rating period is ranked higher
- Date of birth - If the number of games is also equal, the younger player (later birth date) is ranked higher
- Alphabetical order by surname - If both criteria above are still tied, players are ordered alphabetically by their family name
