How prediction markets work
Will the Republicans win the 2028 election?
A yes-or-no question
Every contract starts with a yes-or-no question, like “Will there be a recession this year?” or “Will the Republicans win the 2028 election?” Each resolves clearly on a set date.
Pays $1 or $0
If the event happens, the contract pays $1. If not, it pays $0. The price reflects what traders collectively think: a contract at 72¢ means the market sees roughly a 72% chance.
Traders set the price
Prices move as predictions shift, right up until expiry. You can buy in or sell out anytime to lock in gains or cut losses, just like trading a stock.
Contract expires
On the expiration date, the outcome is checked against the contract’s public rules and the market settles.
Federally regulated
All Kalshi contracts are certified with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal regulator that oversees derivative markets like oil futures, grain futures, and crypto.
Accurate Forecasts
Probabilities set by traders on Kalshi outperform polls, Wall Street consensus and other forecasts. With real money on the line, those forecasts are more trustworthy than polls, news or social media.
