Customer Identification on Kalshi

Kalshi knows every user trading on the platform.

Creating an account

When any applicant signs up for Kalshi, they must verify their email or sign in with their Google or Apple account. Kalshi requires this to prevent fake accounts or bots. But creating an account does not allow a user to trade – no user can place any trade on Kalshi until they complete the digital verification process, which includes providing customer identification information.

Identity verification

An applicant completes their profile by providing their:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • Address
  • Any other information as requested by our third party identity verification vendor

Additional information might include: a government document like a passport or driver's license or social security number. The identity verification team then compares additional evidence received to the other information provided by the applicant. This information results in an automatic decision to accept, reject, or refer the application for further manual review. If an applicant is referred to manual review, a member of the Kalshi Compliance team reviews the application and determines whether there has been an error or if there is additional information needed to complete identity verification. Any applicant who is rejected may log into their account, but is blocked from all user functions and trading privileges.

Watchlist check

Applicants who are not rejected must still go through a watchlist check. At this point, applicants are checked against confidential watchlists maintained by our third party vendor. Watchlists include politically exposed persons (like members of Congress) and people disqualified from transacting on federal exchanges due to legal issues or sanctions lists.

Once the watchlist check is complete, and the user is not flagged by our third party vendor as being subject to a watchlist screen, then the user is fully onboarded and can begin trading on Kalshi.
