If there is no Person of the Year (and instead many variations thereof, e.g. Entertainer of the Year, Hero of the Year), that is not encompassed in the Payout Criterion. This market will resolve to Yes if TIME magazine’s official Person of the Year for the year is any human being, whether a single individual or a group composed entirely of people (for example, “The Protestors” or “Healthcare Workers”). It will resolve to No if the selection is a non-human entity, such as an AI system, a concept (like “You”), an animal, or an inanimate object (e.g., “The Computer” or “Planet Earth”), or if it is a combination of humans and non-humans (for example, “The Computer and Its Users”). Only the official announcement by TIME designating the Person of the Year counts, and honorary mentions, runner-ups, or other lists (such as TIME’s “Most Influential People”) are not relevant. If TIME does not announce a Person of the Year for the year in question (including 2025) by the market’s expiration date, the market will resolve to No. Determination will be based on TIME’s official Person of the Year announcement and cover issue published in December.
