Following the October 7th Hamas attacks on Israel, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels began targeting Red Sea shipping lanes off Yemen, affecting 10% of global trade via the Suez Canal. As a result, Maersk has paused all traffic in the area. A U.S.-led naval coalition is now attempting to protect commercial vessels. It remains to be seen if this will reassure shipping companies like Maersk by April, or if they will continue to avoid the area.
