Each club's figure is the mean winning percentage of every opponent it has played in the regular season, counted once per meeting. An opponent faced four times counts four times — the unbalanced schedule is the thing being measured, so collapsing to distinct opponents would throw away exactly the imbalance.
This is not the football measure. The NFL's version weights opponents' opponents as well; this one stops at the opponents themselves, which is the simpler question and the one the page asks. Neither is a rating, and neither says who is good.
The postseason is excluded. A playoff schedule is earned rather than assigned, so counting it would rate a club harder for having gone further.
An opponent with no published record is skipped rather than counted as zero — an unrated club is unknown, and scoring it .000 would make whoever played them look as though they had faced the worst team in the league. 30 clubs could be rated.
Only games that have been played are counted, and the records are the ones those opponents finished on. That makes this a retrospective measure: it describes the schedule a club actually faced rather than forecasting one it is about to.
