Ivy League universities have received substantial federal funding in recent years. From 2018 to 2022, ten elite private universities, including the eight Ivies, received $33.1 billion in federal contracts and grants, with Stanford topping the list at over $7 billion. This funding supports research in health, science, and technology. However, there are calls to cut this funding due to concerns about large endowments and political biases. Rep. Jim Banks has proposed defunding these universities over antisemitic speech investigations, and Sen. J.D. Vance has introduced a bill for a 35% tax on college endowments over $10 billion.
