How often do the Blues and Islanders play each other?

The St. Louis Blues and the New York Islanders meet twice a regular season, once in each arena. Every club plays each club in the other conference twice, home and away, so this is the least often the league schedules any pairing — and outside the Stanley Cup Final it is the only way the Blues and the Islanders meet.

Are the Blues and Islanders in the same division?

No, and not the same conference either. The St. Louis Blues are a Western Conference club in the Central Division; the New York Islanders are an Eastern Conference club in the Metropolitan. That makes every meeting between them an inter-conference game.

What is at stake when the Blues play the Islanders?

A win is worth two points in the standings, and a loss in overtime or a shootout still earns one — so a game that goes past regulation puts three points on the table rather than two. An inter-conference game cannot move the Blues and the Islanders past each other in any playoff race — they compete for places in different conferences — but the points count toward each club’s total exactly as any other game’s do, and the overall table decides home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Final and the Presidents’ Trophy.
