The Dallas Stars and the Calgary Flames meet three times every regular season. Every club plays each conference opponent outside its own division three times — twice in one arena and once in the other, with the extra home game alternating between seasons.

Are the Stars and Flames in the same division?

No. The Dallas Stars play in the Central Division and the Calgary Flames in the Pacific. Both divisions sit in the Western Conference, so this is a conference game between clubs from different divisions rather than a division rivalry.

What is at stake when the Stars play the Flames?

A win is worth two points in the standings, and a loss in overtime or a shootout still earns one — so a game that goes past regulation puts three points on the table rather than two. The Stars and the Flames are both Western Conference clubs, so beyond the division places they are chasing the same two wild-card spots, which are decided across the whole conference.
