METHOD

How to read this page

The first round pairs each division winner with a wild card — the better division winner draws the second wild card — and the second- and third-place clubs in each division.

The bracket is fixed: the two series in a division bracket meet in the second round, the two division champions in the conference final, and the two conference champions in the Stanley Cup Final.

Home ice in every round goes to the club with the better regular-season record. A game is marked if necessary when the series could be over before it.

FAQ

Questions

How does the NHL playoff bracket work?
Sixteen clubs qualify: the top three in each division and two wild cards per conference. Each division winner plays a wild card, and the second- and third-place clubs meet. The bracket is fixed — there is no reseeding — so the winners of a division’s two series meet in the second round, and each conference’s two division champions in the conference final.
Who plays the second wild card in the NHL playoffs?
The division winner with the better regular-season record plays the second wild card; the other division winner plays the first.
How long is each NHL playoff series?
Every round is best of seven, played 2-2-1-1-1: the club with home ice hosts games 1, 2, 5 and 7.
Who won the 2025-26 Stanley Cup?
The Carolina Hurricanes, who won the Final 4–2.
